Wedding Cake and Cookie Cutters

These illustrations are for the February issue of Odyssey Magazine.  While I was working on them I was trying out a juice fast for the first time.  The first couple days of a juice fast can be pretty rough...I found it kind of funny that during that time I was drawing cookies and cake.  It was a fun assignment to work on anyway!

Faces Magazine

I illustrated an article for Faces magazine on the Chinese Writing System.  Surprisingly this is not the the first time I have been asked to draw the first Emperor of China.  Always a pleasure Emperor Qin Shi Huang...

                                     

SCBWI Winter Conference

I attended the SCBWI Winter Conference this weekend.  I am feeling refreshed and inspired.  It was good to see some old friends and meet some new ones.

It was a lot of information to take in and I will definitely be processing it all over the next couple of weeks.

Cobblestone Magazine

Cobblestone Magazine celebrates Black History Month with an issue on the Civil Rights movement of the 50's and 60's.  The magazine focuses on the younger generation of that time.  I was fortunate enough to be asked to illustrate the cover.  Thank you to Deb Porter for the great assignment!

side note: Deb was one of the very first art directors to give me a shot right out of college ;-)

Appleseeds Magazine

The February issue of Appleseeds Magazine is about Marco Polo...

  I have to admit that I didnt know much about this guy until I read the magazine.  The stories he told were very colorful and many of them exaggerated so I wanted to show him with his larger than life book of adventures.  The book published with his stories became famous throughout Europe which is the main reason why we all know his name today instead of some other explorer of his time.

he was a pretty interesting dude and I had fun learning about him. #nerdalert
